In 2019, I was selected to participated in Mural Arts Philadelphia’s Muralist Training Program through which I have learned how to design and implement public art projects that engage and empower local communities. The program culminated with my original mural design being displayed in the Mural Arts Program Gallery. I am now qualified to apprentice with professional muralists on large-scale projects. I also volunteer with the Mural Arts Porch Light Program, which partners with Philadelphia’s Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual Disability Services to help reintegrate formerly incarcerated individuals and serve Philadelphia’s Burmese and Bhutanese refugee community.
Interactive Mural Design: Walk With Us
This is a digital draft of the mural I am currently painting for the exhibition that I drew using my tablet. I wanted to design an interactive mural that pays tribute to two influential women of color, Angela Davis and Toni Morrison. I plan on working with the Mighty Writers NPO, which provides free workshops to support literacy in marginalized neighborhoods, to install my mural on the wall of its inaugural site in Philadelphia. My hope is that my mural will engage local families and encourage enrollment at Mighty Writers and help address the fact that only thirty percent of eighth graders are reading and writing at their grade level in Philadelphia.

For the MTP exhibition, we were asked to paint a section of our mural design on a 5 by 5 foot piece of cloth. I chose to paint two sections to highlight Angela Davis and Toni Morrison who are the main focus of my design.
